BANKSY'S "EXIT THROUGH THE GIFT SHOP"

Journal Entry: Sun May 2, 2010, 11:11 AM
I made it to Atlanta to watch Banksy's movie, "EXIT THROUGH THE GIFT SHOP" and it was worth it.  I bought the first ticket sold to the first show on the first day the theater in Atlanta was showing it.  Since I was numero uno they gave me one of three movie posters that the distributor of the film had sent to give away.  SCORE!

So yeah, the movie was awesome.  I'm not going to hype it up or ruin the plot, I'm just saying I wasn't disappointed at all.  When I get the poster in a frame, I'll snap a picture of it to share.  :peace:

The movie clears up a few misconceptions and sheds some light on the personal relationships between some key players in the street art scene. Banksy is a mainstay of the story and he gives commentary about his parts in the grand scheme of the plot. It's kind of like a comedic documentary full of petty crime and notable artwork, with a big "What does all of this say about us" moment of reflection for the grand finale. You can't help but to laugh. The footage of Banksy making his stencils, installing his pieces and putting up a few of the epic big city rats was worth watching by itself, but the movie delivered much more than that and it was pretty f'cking epic.

I know, right? I never win shit, ever!

It was a good day, minus the 8 hours it took me to drive there and back

Atlanta is awesome though, it was worth the trip. I got to bum around Midtown and found some epic pieces on a few of the walls to photograph. Then I saw some real live discrimination / racial profiling by the cops as they shook down and harassed a couple of dudes who weren't doing anything wrong. Ahhh, the big city...
