I saw in the news the other day that the F.B.I. is using false online identities on social networking sites in order to investigate criminals. It didn't strike me as newsworthy in and of itself, this concept, especially since they've been setting up sandbox snatchers online for years. I guess the news was talking about something different, I dunno. I guess they're trying to infiltrate... fuck I don't know. What kind of criminal organization would be stupid enough to use social networks to conduct operations? I can just imagine what kind of Facebook page a mafia Don would maintain, and I'm sure he'd be just dying to "friend" a stranger.
This kind of thing means jack shit to all of us normal people, unless you're mildly curious how your tax money gets spent. If they're doing any good with their online efforts, more power to them. If not then they should stop. It's pretty simple. I guess the thing that gets me peeved is the fact that it's possible that I could run across a fake profile full of art that I like and waste my fucking time saying "Hey, nice work! I like the way you blah blah blah," to which the F.B.I. or whoever would respond, "Thank you, that means so much to me. Blah blah blah bunch of bullshit lie lie lie I'm full of shit and I'm wasting your time." I really, really, REALLY hate being lied to. I guess that's the main thing. I hate it. I have enough completely fake people surrounding me every day, I don't need that shit online, too.
Seriously. LOL so ok I guess I'm done ranting about that. So there you go. Mr. Mafia Don, do any of those "watchers" look fishy to you? Better watch out, the suits are gonna get ya!
As the world turns on... I turn off.

I'm a crimnal Justice major working to get into the F.B.I. And it's not uncommon to set up stings and what not like this to catch someone.
I don't think they would be here on deviant art unless they have some sort of special reason.
The typical sites they hit are sites like Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter because those are more known to have the type of people they are looking for, not an art site. Especially after Virginia Tech, they've gotten a bit more active in setting up these types of stings.
Either way, it's no real joking matter :\
But other than that, we should still just have fun and comment and what not.
LMAO!
No, seriously though, if they can stop things like bullying, cyber harassment, invasive corporate espionage, criminal networks etc. then that's great. I realize their intentions are reportedly good and they have to have an online presence this day and age. Like I said, though, I hate being lied to. Plain and simple! And what happens when THEY start harassing somebody who doesn't deserve it? Cops and law enforcement agencies don't exactly have the most upstanding reputation with regards to being immune to things like corruption, hazing, intimidation, racism, warrant-less invasion of privacy and flat out criminal activity. Those are old problems, though. Online investigations certainly didn't create them, but I'm sure online investigations will facilitate them. Corruption breeds corruption. Not much we can do about it, unless God is watching. Is God watching?
Well, I've know from the start that they were on there, expceially since the FBI has a Cyber Crime Division XDDDDD And yes, i do agree Corruption does breed corruption. And yes, I do agree that they should be more up front with this, I mean, it's kinda nerve racking when your wondering who is a fed and who is not. But then, what about the child preditors?
Be that as it may, I do agree that some may do the harrassing and stuff, but then, most won't. Most remain loyal to the oath they took to get into the FBI and what not, cops on the other hand... well, I'm not sure about them. I've run into a couple that were doing some trolling and they said they were cops and what not, so...
Despite it all, they will remain on here for a very long time. Especially with Obama wanting to create a cyber crime division within the white house to take the internet more seriously and to take down some of the cyber bullying. And your right, what can we do? Not much, I suppose.
