So I'm sitting here watching the Matrix trilogy and it dawns on me that I'd forgotten just how goddamn awesome these movies are. I mean, Agent Smith and the Sentinels and the ships and OMFG the battle for the dock in the third movie, Revolutions!!! Watch these three movies again and you'll see what I mean! I know I risk being hung by my entrails by throngs of nerds for what I'm about to say, but...
The Matrix trilogy is way better than the Star Wars movies...
No Jar Jar, no whiny pussy Anakin with a thorn in his paw, none of the "play nice for the fogies who brought their brats to the theaters" bullsith... it's just better. Way better. Granted, the "Force Unleashed" demo I played at Best Buy was pretty sweet, but it wasn't Matrix sweet. The Matrix movies were so good that casting Keanu Reeves in THE LEAD ROLE didn't even tank them. That's sayin something right there because he's a shit actor. Not THE shit, just shit. And the Matrix was still the bomb.
I don't know what it will be, but I'd wager those damned Eskimos will be involved somehow. Up there with their delicious seal jerky and their whale bone sewing needles. Shifty, the lot of them! Don't trust em!
The original Star Wars trilogy USED to be the shit. Now, I find it... charming, at best The newer Star Wars movies weren't horrible if you take into consideration that George Lucas' monkey hordes were aiming at parents and children alike. With the Matrix, you didn't have to "take into consideration" anything before you decided it was BAD ASSERY!
I think it's fair to "take into consideration" what the original trilogy had to work with in terms of special effects vs. what The Matrix trilogy has had to work with. Can't really compare the two. Apples & oranges.
As for the "new" trilogy: fuck that noise. I'm a Star Wars fan for life, but fuck I-III.
I'll give you the difference in what they had to work with, but I'm not one to get too hung on the past as long as neither the ninja turtles or Akira are involved. Once the fog of reminiscence is lifted, old stuff, when compared to new stuff, usually kind of... well... sucks, I guess.
I'm going to say this as nicely and as humanely as possible, and I respect your opinion and all that, it's just... well, quite frankly, in the face of the Matrix...

I appreciate old cinema as much as new, judging each work as its own entity, not to be compared with others.
